Chrysanthemum and orchids, set of two paintings. Ink on square rice paper. Both flowers are part of the "four gentlemen" or the "four nobles" of the traditional Chinese ink painting, together with bamboo and plum blossoms.
In Japan, chrysanthemums - kiku-no-hana (菊の花) or "kiku" for short - symbolise longevity and the imperial family. A chrysanthemum festival is held annually, celebrating centuries old traditions. Orchids are associated with spring beauty and integrity of character.
Both paintings are signed, sealed with artist's personal seal, wet-mounted on backing rice paper and ready to be framed or mounted on a silk scroll. Please use acid-free adhesives when framing. The paintings are manually cut, please leave a few mm error margin for dimensions. Colours may differ due to differences in devices.
