Japanese Crane in Snow. Hand-painted with ink and watercolour on handmade washi paper. The paper has a natural off-white colour, very pleasant to the eye, the image doesn't quite show it. Mounted on backing for framing.
SYMBOLISM OF IMAGES
Cranes (tsuru 鶴 in Japanese) are a very popular subject in Japanese art. They symbolise fidelity, as cranes are said to have one partner for life. These elegant birds are associated with good luck, prosperity, longevity, peace, and hope. One can find them in art, on fabric patterns, in folk tales, in shinto religion. All in all, it's a beautiful auspicious bird and a protected national treasure.
