Bird and plum blossoms. Set of two paired paintings. Ink and watercolours on Japanese washi paper. Washi has a natural warm vanilla colour, the pictures don't show it well. Plum blossoms are one of the "four gentlemen" or "four nobles" of traditional Chinese art, together with orchids, bamboo, and chrysanthemums. Plum blossoms are the predecessors to the Japanese cherry blossoms viewing (hanami). They symbolise the end of winter, spring and renewal. They often bloom in early spring, when the weather is still cold, withstanding even snow and frost. For this reason they are associated with perseverance - ability to withstand hardships, despite fragile looks. Bird is a white-eye, commonly seen on plum blossom trees at this time of the year.
The paintings are signed, sealed, wet-mounted on backing paper, and ready for framing. Please use acid-free adhesive when framing. They are manually cut, please leave a few mm error margin for dimensions. Note, that colours may differ due to differences in devices.
